About Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic medicine is a system of health care that uses natural therapies to treat, prevent, and diagnose disease. The primary goal of naturopathic medicine is to address the causes of illness rather than simply treating or suppressing the symptoms. A naturopathic doctor (ND) assesses the whole person - taking into consideration physical, mental, and emotional aspects of an individual when developing a customized treatment plan.

Sylvia Marasco, NDSylvia Marasco, HBA, ND

Sylvia's passion for people, health and individual experiences originated by facing family health challenges at a young age. These experiences led to the pursuit of optimal health through diet and nutrition and it is here that she recognized a need for more knowledge for herself and to share with others.

Her interest in people on a holistic level expressed itself formally with a completion of two degrees; one in Modern Languages and the other in Religious Studies. These studies helped give her a glimpse of how people relate to themselves and their environment. This was simultaneously complimented by her participation in the hairstyling profession which helped her to hear people's life stories and to relate to them on their level. These interests, experiences and studies, along with a personal desire to further acquire and share methods of empowerment to individuals led to her pursuit in Naturopathic Medicine.

At Ezentials, Sylvia's approach is to familiarize herself with the entire person and to assist with each individual's health journey. She is pleased to be back and practicing in her hometown.

Sylvia's qualifications include:

  • 11 years post graduate studies
  • Licensed Naturopathic Doctor (ND)
  • Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Modern Languages (Laurentian University)
  • Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies (Laurentian University)
  • Chartered Herbalist Degree (Dominion Herbal College)
  • Meditation Facilitator
  • Health Columnist for the Northern Life
